Atlanta has more tree cover than any other major American city, and it changes how the work is done here. It is city-owned and managed by the Piedmont Park Conservancy, but the Conservancy sends still photographers to the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation for their permit. The Atlanta BeltLine beside it has its own rule: no permission for a personal-use shoot, and a paid permit from Atlanta Beltline, Inc. for anything commercial. Timing
April is the best month: dogwood and azalea across the whole city, mild temperatures and long light. October and early November give warm colour under the canopy and the most comfortable weather of the year. July and August are hot and humid, though the tree cover makes it more workable than the numbers suggest. Winter is mild, grey and short on light, but the bare canopy opens up views that do not exist the rest of the year.

June through October, with the heaviest demand in August and September as yearbook deadlines arrive. Booking in June or July means better availability and a cooler session; booking in September means competing with every other senior in a metro area that produces an unusual volume of this work. Spring sessions in April, under the dogwood and azalea, are the best-looking and the least contested.
