The landmarks people travel to photograph are empty for roughly an hour after sunrise and full by nine, and that single fact is the whole difference between a good vacation gallery and a crowded one. A 7am start in July is not a preference imposed on you; it is the only hour in which the photograph you are imagining actually exists. The rest of the day the same location is a queue of people waiting to stand where you wanted to stand.
The other half of the value is local knowledge, and it is not interchangeable with a good camera. Which street the sun reaches first. Which viewpoint faces the wrong way in August and the right way in January. Which famous spot has a better version two blocks away with nobody on it. A session here is a walking route through two or three places chosen for your date and your hour rather than a list of landmarks.
An hour is the right length for a family and the wrong length for a list. Two or three locations within a short walk is what fits; four means photographing in transit and arriving somewhere at the wrong time. If there is one frame you have actually travelled for, say so at booking — the route is built backwards from it, so it happens first and in the light it needs rather than whenever the walk reaches it.
Children are welcome and an hour suits them better than it suits adults, because the session moves continuously rather than standing still. Forty retouched photographs within 48 to 72 hours, a print release included, and from $325. Where a location needs a permit — and in several of these cities the good ones do — it is named and filed before you arrive rather than discovered at a gate.
Frequently asked questions about Vacation photoshoot
How early do we need to start?
Earlier than feels reasonable, and it is the entire difference between a good vacation gallery and a crowded one. The landmarks people travel to photograph are empty for roughly an hour after sunrise and full by nine. A 7am start in July is not a preference we impose; it is the only hour the photograph you are imagining actually exists.
Can we bring our children?
Yes, and an hour is about right for them. A vacation session moves continuously between two or three spots, which suits children far better than standing still, and the candid frames from the walking sections are usually the ones families choose over the posed ones.
What if the weather is bad on the day we booked?
Overcast is a working condition and frequently the better one — even light, no squinting, saturated colour. A session moves only when conditions make the location genuinely unusable, and that reschedule carries no fee. On a short trip the more useful answer is usually to switch the route rather than the date, to locations that hold up in rain, which is decided the morning of rather than a week before.
Can you photograph us at a specific landmark we have travelled for?
Yes, and say so at booking rather than on the day. The route is built backwards from that one frame so it happens first and in the light it actually needs, instead of whenever the walk reaches it. Where the landmark requires a permit — and in several of these cities the best-known ones do — it is filed before you arrive rather than discovered at a gate.
