Why choose Elopement photography in Seattle?

Seattle is the front door to the best mountain elopement terrain in the country, and the thing that decides whether your day happens the way you imagined is a permit rather than the weather. Mount Rainier is a National Park: a ceremony there requires a Special Use Permit, issued in the couple’s name, for a three-hour window, with groups in wilderness limited to twelve. Applications open up to a year ahead, and September dates at the good sites go a long way out.

Worth knowing about Seattle

The distinction that saves money here is between the ceremony and the photography. A wedding ceremony at Mount Rainier needs a Special Use Permit; still photography by itself, for eight or fewer people with hand-carried gear in areas open to the public, generally does not. Couples who marry at the courthouse and travel to the mountain for portraits pay no permit fee, only the $30 vehicle entry — which for a two-person elopement is frequently the better plan.

What does the session in Seattle look like?

Mount Rainier — Paradise or Sunrise
Subalpine meadow below the mountain. The wildflower bloom is about three weeks from late July.
The North Cascades
Higher, emptier and with fewer permit constraints than Rainier. Roads open later in the season.
Discovery Park or Snoqualmie Falls
The in-town options, for a ceremony that does not need a two-hour drive either side.

FAQ — Elopement photography in Seattle

Do we need a permit to elope at Mount Rainier?

For the ceremony, yes — a Special Use Permit from the National Park Service, issued to the couple, costing a $50 application fee plus a $275 management fee, accepted up to a year ahead and no later than 72 hours before. Still photography alone at Mount Rainier needs no separate permit for eight or fewer people with hand-carried gear, except at very high-visitation spots. The Special Use Permit application and the choice of ceremony site are both talked through with you at booking.

When can we actually get up the mountain?

The road to Paradise at Mount Rainier is plowed all year, and the Sunrise road usually opens in late June or early July. Wildflowers bloom from mid-July and peak around the first of August, and there are no timed-entry reservations in 2026. Early October is the underrated alternative — huckleberry turns, and there are far fewer people.
